In order to be in compliance with our insurance policy, Melrose Farmers’ Market requires all vendors who have paid to be at the market and who will be selling items for profit to have liability insurance (including artisans). Non-compliance with the insurance requirement may cause the Melrose Farmers’ Market to lose its insurance and thus its ability to run.

Below is some more information about insurance requirements. Please email the Melrose Farmers’ Market with any questions.

Who needs insurance?

  • Any vendor, artisan, or other individual or organization who has paid a fee to be present at the Melrose Farmers’ Market

  • Any vendor, artisan, musician, or other individual, or organization including musicians and artisans that sells goods or services and/or receives income from attending the market, regardless of whether they paid a fee to be at the market.

  • Individuals or organizations with tip jars.

  • Individuals or groups that require electricity, regardless of whether they paid to be at the market or receive income from attending the market.

Who does not need insurance?

Any individual or group that has not paid to attend the Melrose Farmers’ Market and is not receiving income does not need insurance to attend the market.

What type of insurance coverage does a vendor need?

The insurance policy must have a minimum of $1 million per occurrence with a $2 million aggregate limit. The Melrose Farmers’ Market must be listed as an additional insured, or the policy must contain a blanket additional insured endorsement.

Where can insurance coverage be obtained?

Insurance coverage may be provided from the carrier of the vendor’s choosing. The following companies sell policies that are good for one or more days:

  • ACT (artisan craft vendors)

  • Thimble (food vendors, artisan/craft vendors, and musicians)

Oftentimes, a 1-day rider can be added to a homeowner’s policy.

Where do I send my insurance certificate?

A certificate of insurance must be emailed to melrosefarmersmarket@gmail.com at least one month prior to the vendor’s first scheduled market date. Vendors who fail to provide insurance coverage may forfeit their market space. Refunds will not be allowed.
