As Governor Charles Baker just mentioned in the news,“This week, and all season long, we are proud to celebrate Massachusetts many farmers’ markets and support the continued viability of family farms, local food production and community camaraderie. I encourage all Massachusetts residents to visit a farmers’ market and purchase fresh Massachusetts-grown products to support your local farmers.”
We have a wonderful market in Melrose that features 4 farms from Massachusetts, selling fresh fruits and vegetables. We also feature local artisans, restaurants/bakeries, and live music. SFFM has a real community feel. To ensure ALL residents have access to fresh, healthy foods, SFFM matches SNAP up to $10 and have a farm that is accepting further matching through the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP). For shoppers not carrying cash, you can use your credit card at the Market Table to receive “market bucks”; no cash, no problem.
We are asking you to join friends across the country to celebrate farmers market week while making friends locally by becoming a Friend of the Market. Friends who donate $25 or more will get the coveted bunny-proof orange lawn carrot, those who donate $50 or more will also receive a special new canvas tote bag designed by local artist Tim Scapes. Any Friend contributing $100 or more will receive those plus additional vendor goodies and special invites to our upcoming events. Donations to SFFM are always tax deductible, and help the Market put on special events and programming, such as Family Day, Club Spouts and cooking demonstrations, as well as make your market-goer experience more enjoyable by replacing tattered tents, providing our popular port-a-potty and more! Friends will be able to sign-up at a special Friends Market table and enjoy a slice of cake created and donated by local business Sweet Spot Bakery. Several local elected officials have been invited to attend as well. Do extra good with other Non-profits this week – The Collar Club-collecting blankets, sheets, and towels for the MSPCA, and MelroseBYOB (bring your own bag) will be at the market to talk about their initiative to help Melrose use fewer single-use plastic and paper bags, and switch to reusable shopping bags.
We strongly encourage you to walk/ride bikes, limited parking is available at the Cedar Park Commuter Lot, Trinity Church parking lot, and neighboring streets. Please do NOT park at Garniss, their lot is intended for their customers. Thank you!
